Cinematic Widescreen Animation Field Guide

The 1.85 to 1 Widescreen Animation Field Guide is designed for artists working in modern digital formats. Slightly wider than the standard 16:9 widescreen TV ratio, 1.85 to 1 is considered standard for theatrical cinema. 

The field guide allows layout artists and directors of photography to accurately plot camera trucks, pans, and character positioning for cinema pipelines.

How It Is Used in the Studio

Our field guides are ACME punched as they can be placed directly over your ACME punched animation paper. The field guide can then be used to accurately check the position of each drawing. This ensures that time isn't wasted animating on areas of your paper that won't be in view.

A field guide is essential for setting up shots and allowing the animator to see exactly what will be seen on screen.

At Chromacolour we would recommend a 1:85 to 1 field guide if you are looking to submit your completed film to festivals. Whilst it is slightly wider than our 1:77 to 1 guides, it will still look good on a 16:9 screen and nothing will be cropped when projected onto a cinema screen.
