Great value and accurate

I find these to be useful for swapping drawings on the animation easel, so have plenty of spares handy. I also started mounting these on white art board, with double-sided tape, to ship original paper drawings with the finished Painted Cels to clients (and extra acetate sheets surrounding each layer as painted cels are very delicate).

Invaluable Animation Tool

When I started getting interested in animation I initially drew some flipbooks and experimented with this format to get a feel for how to create movement etc. But I quickly realised that to get the results I was after I would need to draw on larger paper and shoot my scenes in a more traditional way.

I checked out some YouTube videos and saw some animators using punched paper and a peg bar to create their work. The benefits of a peg bar are that the paper is positioned correctly for each page you draw upon, so it is easier to line up and develop your images. You take a sheet of punched paper, which Chromacolour also sell (and which I will review), and place it over the pegs and then you can additional pages and flip between them more easily.

This peg bar is an inexpensive version to get started with and is made from plastic. It is lightweight and easy to place and remove sheets of paper from. I found I had to secure it to my desktop with blu-tac when I was using this, but this is a minor issue and if you are planning to use this regularly, you could easily glue this into a fixed position.

Some animators prefer to place their peg bar at the top of the drawing surface and others at the bottom and I would say that it is best to play around with this and get a feel for what you prefer.

Another benefit for me of using this peg bar is that the pages are kept steady when I am shooting my animations. I just set up my camera above the pages and start to shoot. I don't need to worry about lining the pages up with one another, or them moving around and can just focus on getting the animation lit and shot properly.

This seems like a minor tool in your animation art arsenal, but it is invaluable and for a very small price will help you get more polished results.
